Still Internal Investigation Problems Found at Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office

Sonoma County’s watchdog is reporting on the Sheriff office’s internal investigations. The Sonoma County’s Independent Office of Law Enforcement Review and Outreach, or IOLERO, is challenging the results of two of the investigations. One case involves a deputy’s actions while removing a homeless man and their trailer from property. The other case involved a police K-9 being deployed on a McKinleyville man who was mistaken for a carjacking suspect. That man, Adam Gabriel, is now suing. Additionally, six internal investigations remain incomplete… the most significant case involves the in-custody death of a homeless man in August of 2019. Rigoberto Cabrera, who was known to use drugs, tried to explain he had a medical condition and couldn’t breathe or walk as he was arrested. He collapsed and died where was arrested.
