Post of Costume Winners from Napa Valley Horsemens Removed After Criticism

A post showing three winners of a costume contest at the Napa Valley Horsemens Association dressed as Native Americans has been taken down. The Press Democrat reports that the photo showed three adult women with face paint riding on painted horses, dressed like Native Americans, including a feathered war bonnet. It was posted on Sunday but wasn’t taken off the group’s Facebook page until yesterday afternoon. That came after several critical comments were made that called it cultural appropriation at best and “incredibly racist” at worst. The owners of the Facebook page deleted any critical comments on the post before they eventually deleted it entirely.
