Santa Rosa Aiming to Help Youth Impacted by Gang Violence

Santa Rosa plans to expand or roll out programs targeting at-risk youth and adults and those impacted by gang violence. This is in response to a rise in local gang activity. Intervention specialists have been working with school officials since last year to help deescalate campus fights and will continue to expand that work. The city also is looking to build a crisis team that will respond to local hospitals to provide victims of violent crimes with necessary resources to prevent further victimization. The programs will be managed by the city’s civilian-led Violence Prevention Partnership, as well as with a greater police response under the city’s recently reinstated Gang Crimes Team.
