The co-founder of Clos du Bois winery in Geyserville has passed away. Tom Reed died on February 11th in Santa Rosa due to old age. He was 89-years-old. Reed dabbled between the public and private sectors his whole life. His most notable public post was as Air Force Secretary from January of 1976 to April of 1977. In the 1970s, Reed partnered with fellow Cornell University alum Frank Woods to grow grapes in the Alexander and Dry Creek valleys. Eventually, they partnered with vintner Rodney Strong to create Clos du Bois winery. After selling the winery in the late 1980s, Reed wrote several books, both fiction and non-fiction, detailing nuclear threats. That includes his autobiographical book, “At the Abyss: An Insider’s History of the Cold War.”
