Man Who Plead No Contest to Murder Charges Refused to Appear for Sentencing

A man who was to be sentenced on Wednesday after pleading no contest to homicide charges refused to appear in court. Juan Antonio Martinez’s sentencing has been rescheduled to May 9th. In February, Martinez, who shot another man to death in June of 2022, pleaded no contest to a charge of murder and a charge of posing as a kidnapper to commit extortion. He requested to have his no-contest plea withdrawn, but a judge rejected that request on Monday.
