Improperly Discarded Materials Cause Fire On the Roof of the New Santa Rosa Courthouse Being Built

There are no reports of injuries after a fire on the rooftop of the new courthouse being built at the Sonoma County administration center in Santa Rosa. The fire, which started in a trashcan on Saturday afternoon, was quickly knocked down by firefighters. Santa Rosa Fire Marshal Paul Lowenthal says it was caused by materials “improperly discarded” into a large trash bin on the roof of the six-story building. The flames melted the trash can and spread to wooden decking. The melting plastic also caught a second trashcan on fire on the sixth floor.
