Applications are open for Californians to make their homes safer against earthquakes. The state is offering grants of up to 13-thousand dollars towards a retrofit as an incentive to avoid houses from possibly collapsing. They must be one or two-story with a living space over the garage and built before the year 2000. The homes must also be in any of the 209 designated zip codes. Eligible applicants will be randomly selected.
