A new literary magazine is giving voice to Sonoma County students, including those at the Juvenile Justice Center.
Poetry teacher Pamela Michael works with students in the center’s restrictive environment, where even pens and pencils are carefully controlled. She and others are celebrating the release of the inaugural issue of Sonoma County Youth Voice, featuring poems from these young writers.
The magazine is a partnership between the Sonoma County Office of Education, the Probation Department, and California Poets in the Schools. The first issue features work from students at Juvenile Hall, giving them an opportunity to be seen and heard.
Future issues will feature submissions from all Sonoma County high school students. The deadline for the next issue is February 28th.
