One of Sonoma County’s supervisors is saying that affordable housing faces “visceral opposition.” During a hearing for a SMART station in the Sonoma County Airport area that has a workforce housing component, Supervisor James Gore said that the housing idea faced “not just blowback but visceral opposition.” Speaking with the Press Democrat, Supervisor Gore says that when the Board of Supervisors propose an area for affordable housing, people testify ‘I’m for affordable housing but not here.’ Gore says “They fear low-income solutions near them.” He went on to say “we have to be willing to inconvenience ourselves to make space for not just our low-income workers, but for our youth who are coming into the workforce.”
