We have a challenger for the open Sonoma County superintendent of schools.
Amie Carter of Petaluma has thrown her hat into the ring for County Superintendent. She currently serves as assistant superintendent of education services for the Marin County Office of Education and was formerly principal of Rancho Cotate High School in Rohnert Park. Speaking with the Press Democrat, Carter hopes to further diversify the teacher workforce, expand Sonoma County’s Portrait of a Graduate program, increase student engagement and advocate for increased education funding while emphasizing efficient use of limited dollars. It also being reported that Brad Coscarelli, current principal of Hidden Valley Satellite Elementary in Santa Rosa, plans to launch a campaign for county superintendent sometime closer to the new year.
Current County Superintendent Dr. Steve Herrington has stated that he will retire after the end of his term which expires at the end of 2022.
