The CEO of a troubled for-profit health and homeless services company is stepping down. Michelle Patino has resigned as her company, DEMA Consulting and Management, is seeking to salvage its contract with Harris County, Texas. Celeste Cramer, who was the CFO as of last week, is now CEO of DEMA. In Harris County, which includes Houston, DEMA operates a response line for people experiencing mental health crises on the streets. Like had happened in Sonoma County, Harris County is reviewing DEMA’s financial records to see if any fraudulent activity such as double-billing had occurred. This comes after Sonoma County had terminated their agreement with the homeless service provider in May after an audit found their financial documents lacking.
