A jury is siding with the city of Napa in a police workplace discrimination lawsuit.
On Thursday, a jury ruled in favor of the city against Napa police officer Darlene Elia, who filed the lawsuit in 2022. Elia claimed she was repeatedly passed over for promotions, with those promotions awarded to less qualified, male, or younger colleagues.
The case centered on a promotion decision made in 2022, which Elia claimed was discriminatory. The other alleged incidents detailed in Elia’s lawsuit happened too long ago, pushing them beyond the statute of limitations.
