Two animal sanctuaries in Sonoma Valley are seeing a high volume of calls from people who want to surrender roosters, geese and hens.
Rhianna Axon is the Animal Care Director at Charlie’s Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary. She tells the Press Democrat the facility is already at capacity and can’t take on more birds. Axon says the calls are coming in daily. Many involve young roosters, old hens or geese, whose owners can no longer take care of them.
A similar situation is taking place at Sonoma Chicks Rescue and Sanctuary.
