SRPD Issues Reminders For Pedestrian Safety Month

As California marks Pedestrian Safety Month, the Santa Rosa Police Department is reminding everyone that safety is a shared responsibility. With pedestrian deaths making up more than 24% of all traffic fatalities in California, it’s a critical issue.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, over 7,100 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes across the U.S. last year. To combat this, Santa Rosa police will be out this month, cracking down on dangerous driving behaviors like speeding, illegal turns, and failing to yield at crosswalks.

A difference of just 15 miles per hour can drastically increase the chances of a pedestrian being killed if struck by a vehicle. So, whether you’re behind the wheel or on foot, remember to slow down, put distractions away, and keep your eyes on the road.
