Facing a $10-15 million budget shortfall, Santa Rosa City Schools officials have proposed closing Abraham Lincoln Elementary by June 2026.
The Press Democrat reports the plan, introduced to the board Wednesday, also includes a sweeping consolidation of other elementary schools into new grade configurations (TK-3 and 4-6) to save money. However, the proposal immediately met with frustration from trustees and staff who noted the lack of specific financial savings and the eleventh-hour notice.
The board took no vote, demanding more financial details before moving forward.
