Analy High School in Sebastopol has made history by setting a Guinness World Record for the largest Narcan training ever conducted.
According to the Sonoma Index-Tribune, exactly 1,167 students and faculty participated in a 30-minute, hands-on session led by the nonprofit Micah’s Hugs. They learned how to recognize and quickly reverse an opioid overdose using the life-saving nasal spray, Narcan. The previous record was 363 people.
Micah Sawyer, who co-founded the non-profit after losing his son to fentanyl poisoning, stressed the importance of teaching young people these skills. One student, 16-year-old junior Ian Huffaker, shared how he used Narcan this past summer to save a collapsed pregnant woman. Analy administrators say it’s vital that students have the tools to save a life.
The goal of the record-breaking day was to empower the entire student body in the ongoing battle against the opioid epidemic.
