Santa Rosa police have arrested a twenty-one-year-old man following a tragic hit-and-run that claimed the life of a pedestrian in a wheelchair yesterday afternoon.
Authorities say Israel Ramirez Sanchez was driving a lifted white pickup truck on West College Avenue when he struck the victim in a crosswalk and fled the scene. Investigators used license plate readers and security footage to track the vehicle, but Ramirez Sanchez eventually surrendered at a relative’s home later that day.
The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ramirez Sanchez now faces felony hit-and-run charges as investigators work to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Police are asking anyone with additional video or information to come forward.
