Federal Lawsuits Filed Following Moratorium On Mobile Home Parks

Two major lawsuits are shaking up the housing scene in Sonoma County.

The Ubaldi family, owners of mobile home parks in Windsor and Petaluma, filed federal civil rights lawsuits this week. Per the Press Democrat, they argue that local regulations, including a new moratorium on park closures in Windsor and stricter rent control in Petaluma, illegally infringe on their property rights as park owners.

The suits are the latest escalation in a regional fight over protecting mobile home tenants—many on fixed incomes—from rising costs, versus the owners who claim the rules will force their businesses into bankruptcy.
