“Lost” Veterans At Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery To Be Honored This Weekend

Decades of detective work are culminating this Saturday at the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery, where 21 “lost” veterans will finally receive recognition for their service.

According to the Press Democrat, these veterans, who served in conflicts ranging from the Seminole Wars to World War II, are confirmed to be buried in the cemetery, but their exact gravesites are unmarked and unknown.

After years of research by cemetery archivists, four new stone markers have been installed near the Franklin Avenue gate to collectively honor these servicemen. The markers, which list the names of the 21 veterans, will be formally unveiled this Saturday in a special dedication ceremony.

Organizers say it’s time to ensure these veterans are never forgotten.
