Eight years after the devastating Tubbs Fire destroyed the original Fountaingrove firehouse, Fire Station 5 is officially back in service.
The Press Democrat reports the reopening is a major symbolic moment in the neighborhood’s long recovery from the 2017 firestorm. Department officials and community members celebrated the completion of the $23.8 million project over the weekend.
The new 8,690-square-foot station can also serve as a command center and will house a dedicated wildland fire engine.
