Clearlake residents packed City Hall this week, demanding answers after a massive sewage spill on Robin Lane contaminated local property and threatened private wells.
Per the Press Democrat, the atmosphere was tense as over 100 neighbors met with Lake County officials to discuss the aftermath of the spill, which was finally stopped Monday night. Environmental health crews have since collected samples from nearly 100 private wells, “shocking” them with chlorine to battle bacteria like E. coli.
While officials estimate that only 3,900 gallons reached local creeks, some residents are skeptical, claiming the constant flow of vacuum trucks suggested a much larger disaster.
District Supervisor Bruno Sabatier acknowledged the frustration, noting the board has approved $750,000 for temporary water tanks for the most impacted homes.
