Former Sonoma Valley Car Dealer Challenging Felony Charges

Former Sonoma Valley car dealer Adam Kovacs is pushing back against a slew of felony charges, contending that his legal troubles stem from civil disagreements rather than criminal activity.

Kovacs, the owner of the shuttered Kovacs Motors in Boyes Hot Springs, currently faces 12 felony counts and two misdemeanors. The charges include grand theft, embezzlement, and the misappropriation of public funds.

Prosecutors allege that Kovacs pocketed approximately $53,000 from a consignment sale and failed to turn over sales tax and DMV fees from eleven other vehicle transactions.

Denying any criminal intent, Kovacs’ attorney has filed a challenge arguing that the charges are legally defective and have been improperly bundled together. The case is moving toward a pivotal plea hearing, now set for February 4th.
