Sonoma County Supervisors faced a packed room of emotional residents on Tuesday following a local supervisor’s high-profile decision to call for a total ban on jail communication with ICE.
According to the Press Democrat, the meeting was charged with urgency following the fatal shooting of a nurse by federal agents in Minneapolis, a tragedy that has intensified local demands for the Sheriff’s Office to cut all ties with immigration enforcement.
While the board highlighted new protections—including “ICE-free zones” and a response hotline—many advocates argued that anything short of a total “non-collaboration” policy is no longer enough to protect the community.
