Authorities from the Sonoma County Department of Emergency Management, in coordination with the City of Petaluma, are conducting a live test of the area’s emergency notification systems today, Monday, February 9th.
According to the Petaluma Argus-Courier, if you are in the area, you may receive a test alert on your mobile phone between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Officials stress that this is strictly a test and no emergency action is required. The exercise is designed to ensure that life-safety information can be shared quickly during real-world events like wildfires or flooding.
If you receive the notification, you can help officials by providing feedback at socotest.org. For more details on emergency preparedness, visit the city’s website.
