Five Arrested for DUI During Petaluma St. Patrick’s Day Crackdown

Petaluma police arrested five people for driving under the influence during a high-intensity 24-hour enforcement period over St. Patrick’s Day.

The Petaluma Argus-Courier reports the arrests included a woman on felony probation who allegedly sheared off her car’s oil pan after striking a city roundabout before being tracked down at a local cafe. Another driver was taken into custody after admitting to drinking behind the wheel during a traffic stop for an illegal U-turn. Officers also reported stopping one individual with a blood alcohol level more than double the legal limit.

The suspects, ranging from local residents to out-of-state visitors, were booked into Sonoma County jail as part of the holiday safety sweep.

Authorities are using the incidents to remind the public of the ongoing dangers of impaired driving.
