A preliminary hearing is underway for Richard Lund, the man accused of fatally shooting 60-year-old Mark Calcagni outside his Santa Rosa home last October. Prosecutors presented evidence including surveillance footage and phone data that allegedly link Lund and a former coworker to the scene.
Investigators testified that both suspects had been recently fired from their jobs, suggesting the killing may have been a planned act. While a specific motive has yet to be confirmed in court, a second suspect in the case has already entered a no-contest plea to an accessory charge.
The hearing will determine if there is enough evidence for Lund to proceed to trial on the murder charge. Calcagni was a well-known figure in the Bay Area nightlife scene, serving as a manager for a popular San Francisco club.
