Sonoma County has officially kicked off its free Residential Curbside Chipper Program to help homeowners prepare for the upcoming wildfire season.
Administered by Permit Sonoma, the initiative provides unincorporated residents with up to two hours of complimentary chipping to clear hazardous vegetation and build defensible space. Fire Marshal Steve Mosiurchak emphasizes that maintaining a 100-foot safety buffer significantly increases a home’s chance of surviving a fire while keeping evacuation routes clear for first responders.
Appointments are available now on a first-come, first-served basis, covering areas from Cloverdale to Jenner. Residents are encouraged to apply early and follow specific pile-preparation guidelines to ensure their property is serviced.
