New Chief Medical Officer For Providence Sonoma

Providence Sonoma County has tapped critical care veteran Dr. Sean Townsend to serve as its new Chief Medical Officer starting June 1st.

The North Bay Business Journal reports Townsend will oversee clinical operations at Santa Rosa Memorial, Healdsburg, and Petaluma Valley hospitals, taking over for Dr. Eric Hodes. A former executive at Sutter Health and California Pacific Medical Center, Townsend is nationally recognized for his pioneering work in sepsis care and patient safety.

Hospital leaders say his background in clinical excellence and data analytics will be key in advancing patient-centered care across the region. Dr. Hodes will remain on part-time through the summer to ensure a smooth transition for the leadership team.

With a resume featuring faculty roles at Harvard and UCSF, Townsend says he’s ready to build on the high-quality care already underway in the North Bay.
