Sonoma County voters are likely to see a ballot measure this November to renew a one-eighth cent sales tax that directly funds city and county parks.
According to the Press Democrat, the current tax, known as Measure M, has generated over eighty-nine million dollars since 2019 but is set to expire in 2029.
Under the newly proposed extension, the tax would continue indefinitely without a sunset date until overturned by future voters. The Board of Supervisors unanimously backed the proposal, which will require a final vote this summer to officially secure its spot on the ballot.
If approved by a two-thirds majority in November, the tax will continue generating an estimated fifteen million dollars annually for park maintenance, safety, and recreation.
