A man in Mendocino County is free of DUI charges after a jury concluded he needed to drive drunk to escape his wife and mistress. The jury decided the that he had to drive drunk, because the man needed to escape his wife after she caught him in bed with another woman last August. The defense argued the man driving while drunk was a necessity for his safety, even with a high blood-alcohol level, making it okay by law. The defense said the man’s wife started pummeling her husband and yelled at him and his mistress was throwing rocks at him and his truck, forcing him to quickly escape his home. The 60-year-old man from McNab Ranch, which is just south of Ukiah, was acquitted last Friday.
