The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit extension from Santa Rosa to Windsor is expected to begin service in 2025. The three-mile extension is back on track for completion after several delays caused by pandemic-related restrictions and a 35-million-dollar funding shortfall partially caused by legal battles. Construction started in 2020 and was initially expected to be done in 2021. A state program recently awarded SMART 30-million-dollars, which will be used to fund the Windsor extension. The project, which is a third of the way completed, is now considered fully funded, and construction will continue later this year.
