Sonoma County Focus – Solar Prize with Amy’s Roofing and Solar

Host Michelle Marques talks with Brian and Amy Atchley, owners of Amy's Roofing and Solar in Petaluma and r&d lab about their efforts to create an easy to install, cost efficient solar product that can be easily installed whenever a roof is installed or repaired. They entered a national competition for the American Made Solar Prize, a contest administered by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the US Department of Energy. Their innovation made it through 4 rounds of the competition and they were one of two final winners of the competition! In the second portion of the interview, Michelle talks with Debbie Brodt-Giles, Group Manager Advanced Data Analytics & Tools at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to talk about the particulars of the prize.

Host Michelle Marques talks with Adam Iveson, co-founder of Ember Defense and Santa Rosa Mayor Chris Rogers. Adam tells us about the advancements coming in the products and services provided by Ember Defense and their partners. Mayor Rogers talks about the recent updates made to the Community Wildfire Protection Plan. The city is working to improve vegetation management, emergency routes, and educating the public. New developments will include more cameras and lighting to help during evacuations to streamline the efforts. Adam teased the release of a new product which will be announced on KSRO in the coming weeks.

Community Conversations on Race – Sheba Person-Whitley, Sonoma County EDB

Host Michelle Marques talks with Sheba Person-Whitley, Executive Director of the Sonoma County Economic Development Board about racism in Sonoma County. Sheba shares her thoughts on how the Black Lives Matter protests in the spring and summer of 2020 spurred people in the US to talk about and examine inequality, however action to address systemic racism is very slow. Community Action Partnership – Sonoma County has hosted over 50 episodes of direct, open, honest, and sometimes hard conversations on race over the last year and a half. In today’s show, Sheba and Michelle talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion.
