The Good Stuff – A. Rafanelli Winery
In this episode of The Good Stuff presented by the Sonoma County Winegrowers, hosts Virginie Boone and Karissa Kruse talk to Shelly Rafanelli, Winemaker and Managing Partner of A. Rafanelli Winery.
Rashell (Shelly) Rafanelli grew up with a passion for agriculture. Having strong ties to the wine industry she always planned on staying in the business. Her degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, was in agricultural business with a marketing concentration. After graduation she planned to work in marketing at a large winery.
Shelly is the fourth-generation winemaker at her family's winery which her great grandfather, Italian immigrant, Alberto Rafanelli founded in 1911. His son, Americo, moved it from the town of Healdsburg to the Dry Creek Valley in the early 1950s, and Americo's son, David, and his wife, Patty, now own and operate the business. Shelly is the eldest daughter of David and Patty.
Her parents never pressured any of their three daughters to go into the family business. The message always was: you choose what you want to do. But when Shelly graduated from Cal Poly in 1996, she decided to return home. The winery did not have a marketing department, and she thought that it made sense to get involved in marketing and production, given her education and degree.
Shelly has taken over all production at the winery. With the help of her husband Craig Fehlman, who manages all of the winery’s vineyards, they intend to carry on the family tradition of handcrafting exclusive premium red wines. In addition to learning from her father, Shelly has taken winemaking classes at the University of California, Davis, and attends seminars to continue to hone her winemaking skills. A. Rafanelli is known for its Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, which are the only wines it produces. Recognition of her winemaking abilities includes her 2018 Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon being listed among Eric Asimov’s 2023 “most memorable” wines.
Shelly, Craig, and their young son, Caden Richard, live in Sonoma County.
And finally, Virginie and Karissa share their Tuesday Night wine picks!

Raise The Roof with Letita Hanke – Holman Plumbing

In today’s episode, Letitia Hanke, CEO of ARS Roofing and Founder and Executive Director of The LIME Foundation speaks with Justin Holman, from Holman Plumbing, about what the business specializes in, water heaters, wasting water, water filtration systems, general maintenance tips and his mentorship for Lime and the Nextgen Trades Academy.
In addition, Letitia also shares some tips about roof inspections as fall and the rainy season approaches:
Clear Leaves & Debris
- Why it matters:Falling leaves, branches, and pine needles can collect on your roof and trap moisture. This accelerates wear and can lead to moss or algae growth.
- Tip:Use a roof rake or hire a professional to safely clear debris without damaging shingles.
Inspect Roof & Flashing
- Why it matters:Damaged or missing shingles, tile and loose flashing are entry points for water, especially during heavy fall rains and winter storms.
- Tip:Check for cracked, curled, or missing shingles. Pay attention to flashing around chimneys, skylights, and vents.
Gutter Cleaning & Maintenance
- Why it matters:Gutters are your roof’s drainage system. When clogged with leaves and debris, water can back up under shingles, freeze, and cause ice dams or leaks. Overflowing gutters can also damage siding, fascia boards, and even your home’s foundation.
- Tip:
- Clean gutters at leasttwice in the fall (early and late).
- Check that downspouts are clear and direct water at least 3–4 feet away from the foundation.
- Consider installing gutter guards if trees are nearby.
Attic & Interior Check
- Why it matters:Leaks often show up inside first. Dark spots, damp insulation, or musty smells can mean water intrusion.
- Tip:Check your attic after the first heavy rain. Look for signs of leaks, water stains, or sagging wood.
Schedule a Professional Inspection
- Why it matters:A licensed roofer can spot small issues before they become costly repairs in winter.
- Tip:Schedule a fall inspection to ensure your roof is ready to handle storms, wind, and freezing temperatures. $450 but if you call and say Raise the Roof, it’s free.
