Memorial Day weekend could be a real mess at San Francisco International Airport. SFO officials said yesterday they expect major flight delays and cancellations during the holiday weekend because of maintenance work. The 35-million dollar repaving project was supposed to be on hold so it wouldn’t interfere with flights this Saturday and Sunday. But the project fell behind schedule and airport officials decided scrubbing the work this weekend would create a much worse inconvenience during the peak summer weekends that are coming up very soon. They say travelers need to stay in close touch with the airlines they’ll be flying.
