New Bill Introduced to Address Mass Layoffs in California

A bill has been introduced by California lawmakers that would force employers to give workers more notice of mass layoffs and would extend those protections to contract workers. The proposed legislation would require employers who lay off more than 50 workers at a time to give employees 90 days’ notice.  It would also stop employers from pressuring workers to sign away their rights through waivers and nondisclosure agreements in exchange for severance pay.  This comes as tens of thousands of workers have lost their jobs in the tech industry, which has been dealing with waves of layoffs.
