Activist and Pastor Curtis Byrd Passes Away

Curtis Byrd, a Santa Rosa pastor and activist, has died at the age of 62. Byrd worked on the Santa Rosa Planning Commission and the Mayor’s Gang Task Force Policy Team. He helmed the Gray Foundation, which was started by his grandparents to help minority youth attending college. In college, Byrd was a skilled athlete, and was on his way to compete in the 1976 Olympics in track and field, but an injury ended his running career. Byrd dealt with health issues from lupus for many decades and died at a nursing facility in Novato on March 2nd, according to the Press Democrat.
