A group of Sebastopol renters filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday against The Pacific Companies to stop their imminent eviction from the Woodmark Apartments.
The tenants claim the developer committed fraud by moving them into farmworker-designated units to secure tax credits, only to demand they leave a year later.
While the owner claims the move is necessary for federal compliance, residents argue they are being punished for the company’s deception. With a final move-out deadline set for this Friday, the lawsuit seeks to halt all displacements and secure long-term leases.
Legal advocates vow to fight the evictions to prevent the families from falling into homelessness.
