Law Enforcement Oversight Takes Center Stage In Board of Supervisors Race

With two open seats on the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, the 2nd District race has become a high-stakes battleground over the future of law enforcement oversight.

The Press Democrat reports Candidates Sylvia Lemus, Shelina Moreda, Joanna Paun, and John King are vying to succeed David Rabbitt, with the ongoing legal stalemate surrounding Measure P and the Sheriff’s Office serving as a primary point of division.

While the county’s watchdog agency, IOLERO, currently awaits a potential state Supreme Court review on its subpoena powers, candidates are split on how to resolve the conflict and whether the measure should return to voters for clarification.

The outcome of the June 2nd election will likely determine the board’s stance on police transparency and how the county manages its relationship with labor groups and the Sheriff’s Department.
