A recent $2-million grant from MacKenzie Scott, philanthropist and ex-wife of Jeff Bezos is a win for a Santa Rosa-based nonprofit that has worked with marginalized groups in the North Bay for more than a decade. The North Bay Organizing Project — a grassroots organization, aims to elevate the voices of locals in areas connected to immigration reform and housing and tenant protections. They are one of 361 non-profit is to receive funds from Scott’s Yield Giving organization. Scott donated $640-million after an open call last year to community groups. This is more than double what she had initially pledged to give away during this round of grants. The funds will help the grassroots organization prepare for the next five years.
