Sonoma-based cheesemaker Laura Chenel has cut ties with an Oregon dairy following a graphic investigation by PETA.
The animal rights group released video and photos alleging severe neglect and abuse at Grand Barr Dairy, claiming goats were denied veterinary care and kept in unsanitary conditions. Laura Chenel responded swiftly, stating they have a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy for animal mistreatment and terminated the partnership after conducting their own internal review.
Authorities in Oregon have already cited one person connected to the farm for animal neglect, and the state’s Department of Justice is now assisting with the case. Laura Chenel says it is now reviewing all its suppliers to ensure they meet the highest standards of animal welfare.
