State Senator Candidate Uses Weekend Protest To Rebuke Mike McGuire

Santa Rosa’s Old Courthouse Square was transformed into a sea of candlelight over the weekend as 1,500 protesters gathered for a “No War, No ICE” rally.

Organized by Indivisible Sonoma County, the event targeted federal immigration policies and the current administration’s agenda. However, the afternoon also served as a high-stakes campaign stop for the reconfigured 1st Congressional District.

According to the Press Democrat, candidate Audrey Denney used the platform to take a “stealth rebuke” at her primary opponent, State Senator Mike McGuire, following reports regarding his campaign spending.

While McGuire remains the frontrunner with deep Sacramento ties, Denney—an educator with deep ranching roots—is banking on her grassroots strength and a “corporate-free” platform to flip the newly Democratic-leaning district.
