Back-To-Back Earthquakes Jolt Northern California

Residents near the Lake County town of Cobb were shaken by two earthquakes late Wednesday and early Thursday morning.

According to the Press Democrat, the first, a magnitude 3.1, struck at 8:56 p.m., followed several hours later by a stronger 4.2 magnitude quake at 2:42 a.m. Both events originated at shallow depths within the Geysers geothermal area and were felt as far south as San Francisco and Windsor.

State Senator Mike McGuire describes the larger quake as a “pretty good shaker,” but confirms there are currently no reports of major damage. Experts say the 4.2 magnitude tremor triggered ShakeAlert notifications, waking many locals before the shaking began.

Officials have issued a “green” alert, indicating a low risk of significant loss or casualties.
