SRPD Recover Stolen Car In Under 15 Minutes On Monday Night

High-tech tracking and a tactical maneuver helped Santa Rosa Police capture a wanted felon and recover a stolen car in under 15 minutes Monday night.

The incident began just after 8:00 p.m. when a food delivery driver reported his Honda Civic stolen on 4th Street. Dispatchers immediately used Automated License Plate Reader technology to track the car, locating it near Sebastopol Road within eight minutes.

The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Ruben Bino Paez the Second, led officers on a pursuit reaching 70 miles per hour on Highway 12. As the chase headed toward the densely populated downtown area, an SRPD sergeant used a PIT maneuver to safely spin and stop the vehicle on Morgan Street.

Paez was arrested without incident. Police later determined he was on felony probation and had outstanding warrants for assault with a deadly weapon. No injuries were reported, and the stolen car sustained only minor damage.
