Community Conversations on Race – Zeke Guzman on Vaccine Equity

Host Michelle Marques talks with Zeke Guzman, founder of La Familia Sana, a grassroots community organization focused on the health and wellbeing of migrant communities.

Zeke talks about efforts to distribute the coronavirus vaccine early on in the pandemic and the challenges he and volunteers faced when encountering vaccine hesitancy in migrant communities. He has found that identifying trusted community members who are willing to talk within their social networks is the most effective method in dispelling misinformation and building the trust needed to get people vaccinated. Zeke also says that vaccine clinics need to happen within migrant communities, during times that are convenient and outside of most people's work schedules. This ensures that people do not have to miss work traveling far from home, or lose wages to attend a clinic.
