At the Table – Talking Soil with Darek Trowbridge

Host Clark Wolf talks with Darek Trowbridge, Pastoral Winemaker at Old World Winery about his efforts to build healthy soil. Darek makes natural wines which do not have added yeast, just the naturally occurring yeasts that already exist on the grapes. Old World Winery won a Healthy Soils Grant 2 months ago. The grant funds the further application of their Fungi Rich Composted Mulch to several apple orchards in addition to a few more vineyards. Darek grows food crops at the winery and all of it is non-till. There are many reasons to use non-till techniques, which reflect on the climate, ecology, and co-benefits to the greater community in water (decrease storm water runoff, increase groundwater recharge) and air (remove more CO2 out of the atmosphere, less dust and particulates in air).
